X marks the Spider!
There isn't a good way to demonstrate scale here but this spider is one of the largest I've ever seen. This one was about 4 to 5 inches across. He or she was hanging out on the side of Sanba38's house.
Some people told me it was a "Cane Spider" but it looks closer to what Wikipedia calls the St. Andrew's Cross Spider:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Andrew%27s_Cross_spider
Others called it the "Zig-zag Spider" but whatever the case they're pretty impressive and apparently enjoy resting in that X-shaped position.
This is my entry for this week's Challenge.

Most accounts say they're relatively docile spiders and only would bite a human in defense. Even if you are bitten by the Agriope, the venom isn't known to be harmful to humans. They prefer eating insects after all. |
