We'll try to make the move as clean as possible, but as you can imagine, we've got a lot of photos and data to move around and testing to do on the new server.

Please don't worry if we disappear for a while. Normal service will be resumed ASAP. Thanks!

 alt="Tags" style="border: 1px solid #ddd;" />

We now have basic tagging functionality on Fotonomy.

If you don't know, tags are simply keywords that describe your photos, and help with searching. You can view the most common tags on Fotonomy by selecting "Browse Tags" from the photos menu.

At the moment, we don't have a lot of tagged photos, but I will work on some advanced search functionality once more people start tagging their photos.

Right now, it'd be really useful if you could spend a little time going through your photos and tagging them. Just click the 'Edit Tags' button to the right of your photo. It only takes a few seconds, and makes the site a whole lot more fun to use for everyone.

As always, if you spot any problems, let me know in the comments below.

 alt="Full Screen" style="border: 1px solid #ddd;" />

A quick update for you.

You can now view any photo "full screen" (within your browser, at least) simply by clicking on it. This gives a nice quick way of viewing a photo in greater detail without downloading the original.

I've also added a couple of other little features. "Most interesting" can now be browsed by week, month or year, and the member directory can be sorted by username or when the person was last online.

Oh - and a quick reminder to all you new people. Don't forget to show some love by using the 'faves' button regularly. This also helps generate the 'most interesting' list, so use it to help publicise the best photos on Fotonomy.

That's all. :)

I'm so sorry that Fotonomy has been down for the last couple of days.

This was down to my ISP who took it upon themselves to disconnect the server and then could not figure out how to get it back online.

It's a long story that involved several hours on the phone which I won't bother you with, but it looks like we're back. Fingers crossed.

Sorry again.

 alt="EXIF" style="border: 1px solid #ddd;" />

Another update for you - two in a week! Woo!

This time, I've added extensive EXIF technical information for all photos. Just click the little 'EXIF' icon on a photo's details box.

The information provided is extremely comprehensive - as far as I'm aware, it's the most complete technical information provided by any photo sharing site. The only things it doesn't show are the embedded thumbnail (as Fotonomy generates it's own thumbnails anyway) and any HTML tags which are stripped out for security reasons.

You may be surprised just how much metadata your photos hold.

Here's an example:
http://www.fotonomy.com/Peter/photo/980f90ea/exif/

On another note, I've also made some minor tweaks to the interface which you may or may not notice. As ever, post any comments, questions or bug reports below. Oh - and don't forget to use that 'fave' button too!

 alt="Favourites" style="border: 1px solid #ddd;" />

You can now keep track of your favourite photos on Fotonomy with the new.... 'favourites' feature!

You should find it fairly self explanatory. Just click the little 'Fave' star button on any photo to add or remove it from your list. You can keep track of all your faves on your own 'My Favourites' page as well as browsing other people's favourites.

Have a play, and let me know what you think in the comments here!

Oh - and before anyone says, I've gone with the British spelling of favourites (with a 'u') - it's not a typo! :)

http://blog.fotonomy.com/

The idea of the blog is to give useful camera and photography advice for Fotonomers of all levels, talk about cameras, printers, etc. and provide useful information about the site.

All important site news will continue to be posted here, but the blog will give me a place to talk about new ideas for features and get feedback much earlier.

I'm also interested in hearing from people who'd be interested in earning a little cash by writing for the blog.

Maybe you want to share some tips about a cool Photoshop technique, or even review your own camera. If so, just drop me a message using the 'Contact Us' page here - preferably with an example of something you've written in the past.

You can now get an RSS feed of your friends' photos (or anyone else's friends for that matter). This is cool, because it allows you to keep up to date with all their latest photos without having to visit the site to check.

Your friends page now has a little RSS button on it. Copy the link and paste it into your favourite RSS reader, and it will notify you whenever any of your friends post a new photo.

Here's an example feed: http://www.fotonomy.com/dom/friends/feed/

Have fun. I'll try not to leave the updates so long next time. :)

I've introduced drop-down menus, as this makes it a whole lot easier to organise navigation more logically as the site grows.

There's also a couple of new features:

* 'Most Interesting' shows, well, the most interesting 20 photos for any given week.

* 'Random photo' jumps to a completely random photo.
