Don't let that confident stride fool you...
Every day I take the cat for a walk. He is rather clingy and really does not like us more than a room away from him. I realised that he simply wasn't going outside at all other than when I locked him out at night -- and then he was staying in his protected sleeping area.
So now, we go for a wander around the garden. Originally, I would carry him out and then walk and he'd follow me to keep me in his sight. But now he's getting into it and follows me out of the house, ready for a bit of exploring.
He is getting the hang of grass (he was really upset the first time he walked on it, even yesterday he kept putting his paw out to test it before stepping forward) and starting to take the traffic noise in his stride instead of hiding every time a car drives past.
Still, he always looks pretty relieved when I start heading back towards the door. Once he's sure that's where I'm going, he speeds ahead like a striped silver bullet.
