We Americans are under some idea that what is old is bad and what is new is good, sometimes this is true. We consume and destroy what is our past and want to leave it behind, instead of holding on to it as a reminder of our history or legacy.

I agree with BrainPain..........I live in Oxford England, one of the most important historical cities in Europe, where all the great people of the centuries have come to learn, even from the US, when I arrived, not so long ago, not much more than ten years there were wonderful old shops, with wooden window frames and oak beams.........quaint old decorations above the shopfronts.....now guess what............Macdonalds have taken over with the coalition forces of Starbucks, and Burger King........the wood and stone are in retreat, pursued by the battalions of plastic and neon......now if you want a glimpse of *olde Oxford* you need a tour of the colleges...............and we depend on tourists for our wealth..............hordes of Japanese coming here to eat big macs and BK whoppers...............
