Datura.JPG

Thornapple, Jimson weed, Datura metcloides

Most species are poisonous, yet many food plants such as the potato, tomato, pepper and eggplant are related to the Thornapple. It is also related to the Petunia!

Jimson weed is considered a weed that is especially obvious along roadsides. The leaves are gray-green ovate and hairy. The flowers are typically tubular, large, white and showy, and open in the morning and forenoon, and close during the heat of the day. The plants have narcotic properties, so I guess what ever eats the seeds of the dried pods, is flying high!! It is a member of the nightshade family, and most who try to use the narcotic properties don’t fare so well.

AND HERE IS THE "THORN APPLE"
